Completed in 2016, the first phase of this £1.8m Indwell project included the renovation of a 1.100 m2 social housing development in East Hamilton, Ontario.

Initially built in the early 1970s, the goal was to bring the 39 building apartments up to current codes, reduce energy use, and improve the building’s interface with the surrounding community. Retrofits included new roofing, windows, insulation and Hardie® Panel fibre cement cladding, plus electrical and HVAC upgrades.

The second phase improved the livability for tenants in the building with a new entrance, kitchen, dining area, common spaces, elevator, barrier free modifications to four units, and other site improvements.

"We wanted to specify a product that offered design flexibility with a good colour range, great aesthetic and ease of installation. Hardie® Panel fibre cement cladding also offered the added benefits of being a non-combustible board, as well as enabling us to meet our tight budget constraints on the scheme. We are thrilled with the end result. The building has been transformed and now has a beautiful, contemporary aesthetic."
